# macOS says it cannot verify DevHub and will not open it

> The macOS security prompt on the first start, and the one way through it: Open Anyway in Privacy & Security.

**Symptom:** You open DevHub from Applications and macOS says it cannot verify the developer. DevHub does not start.

**Cause:** DevHub is not yet signed with an Apple developer certificate, so macOS stops it on the first start. This is expected.

**Solution:**

1. Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security.
2. Scroll down to the message about DevHub and click **Open Anyway**.
3. Open DevHub again and confirm.

Right-click and **Open** does not get past this prompt on current macOS.

**Applies from:** 0.8.1

> **Caution:** The steps and the wording of the prompt were checked on an earlier version. Check them against
> your macOS if a name differs.

You do this once, on the first start. The full path is in [Install](/devhub/getting-started/install/index.md).
